The value of reading bedtime stories to your children regularly cannot be underestimated. Reading to your child helps to develop a love of books and improves literacy, as well as building relationships and creating beautiful memories of time together. Reading together is also an excellent opportunity to teach values and life lessons in an enjoyable and meaningful way.

I really like to use every day experiences, analogies and examples to teach my children spiritual truths or life lessons. Jesus often used parables, real life examples to illustrate spiritual truths and our chickens provided one of those educational moments and inspired my sixth children’s book, Sooty & Snow.

Proverbs 4:23 says that we are to guard our heart with all diligence for out of it spring the issues of life. Wow, with ALL DILIGENCE! My whole life and what I do is affected by the condition of my heart – that’s serious. It takes a conscious effort to be aware of what I am allowing to be sown in my heart. I want to grow good fruit!

(more…)Destiny Rescue – Thailand
In April 2013, Simon, Jenny (a close friend) and I went to visit the Destiny Rescue team in Thailand. Destiny Rescue provide safe homes for children rescued from sex-slavery and also have prevention homes for vulnerable boys and girls. It was wonderful to meet the dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers. You couldn't do this job, knowing the horrors of what has happened in the lives of the rescued children and what is happening to so many others, if you didn't see the amazing results.
It was encouraging to meet the real men who stand up for justice and fight to protect the vulnerable. Tony Kirwan along with other trained men rescue the underage girls from brothels and clubs.
It’s a challenging situation that can involve “legal” slavery where the girls
have been bought or where the girls feel a sense of duty to provide for their families no matter what the cost, which is related to Thai beliefs. In such cases the girl’s freedom needs to be purchased. They also need to fi...
